Cymru X Text Referendum on a Parliament for Wales November 2005

Members of Cymru X travel Wales to promote the text Referendum

During November 2005, Cymru X launched a Text Referendum on a Parliament for Wales. This is the first ever time that a political Party has embraced this new, interactive way of campaigning- a text Referendum asking young people to text either yes or no to a full legislative Parliament for Wales. The Referendum was officially launched all over Wales, and activists took to the streets every week in the South Wales Valleys, Camarthen, Swansea and Caernarfon to encourage young people to vote and to take part in political processes. The campaign was hugely successful and gained much media attention. The Referendum came to an end on the same day that New Labour released its White Paper on the powers of the Welsh Assembly- Cymru X organised a protest outside the Senedd building by wearing masks of the Party leaders, reinacting the Referendum result night in 1997 where all leaders held hands in support of the newly formed Assembly but with Hain away from the other leaders this time due to his inability to accept the need for a full legislative Parliament for Wales. The result of the referendum, from the thousands that took part showed that there are 97% in favour of a Parliament for Wales. You should take note of that Hain and Rhodri Morgan!!
