Cymru X Eisteddfod Protest against nuclear arms

Members of Cymru X protested at the Eisteddfod to draw attention to our opposition to New Labour's unprincipled support to the development of nuclear arms. Members of Cymru X wore nuclear suits and held mock nuclear arms to draw attention to the cause against trident. Adam Price MP, Jill Evans MEP and Ray Davies from CND Cymru spoke at the protest. We visited every Political Party's stall bar Plaid Cymru at the Eisteddfod due to the fact that they all support trident. This is unnacceptable.

New Labour’s leaders have announced that they favour a policy of up-grading the current Trident system at a cost of between £25bn and £40bn.

The system is based on the use of 4 submarines-carrying in total 48 warheads which are 7 times more explosive that the Hiroshima bomb which killed 140,000 people.

Cymru X believes that a new Trident system would be illegal, immoral and a waste of money.   Instead of making the world a safer place, a new nuclear weapons system will only help create a nuclear arms race.   As a state that has signed the nuclear non proliferation treaty, a new Trident system would be against international law.

Cymru X believes that tax payers money should be spent o public services not nuclear weapons.   Money allocated to a new trident could pay for:
120,000 new qualified nurses for each year over a 10 year period or
60,000 new teachers for each year over a 20 year period or
Free public transport for a generation.
