Keep Ysgol Rhydfelen's name!

Cymru X support the staff and pupils wishes at Ysgol Rhydfelen to retain the school's name. Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen in Pontypridd is moving to a new building very soon as part of a new community complex in Gartholwg. However, in light of this move, the Labour run Council has proposed that the school changes its name also.

Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen in Pontypridd is moving to a new building very soon as part of a new community complex in Gartholwg. However, in light of this move, the Labour run Council has proposed that the school changes its name also. The school are against this idea, as they are keen to keep the name of the school as it stands- the first ever welsh language school in the South Wales Valleys. The School plays an important role in developing the welsh language in Rhondda Cynon Taf and it would be a shame to lose a name that is now so rooted in the history and success of the area. Cymru X hold citizenship workshops at the school, and are therefore pleased to support the appeal.

If you wish to support the school and retain the name of the school, please write to the Headteacher, Peter Griffiths-

Update of information- A protest was organised by the school outside the Council offices against the proposed change of name. Plaid Councillors supported the protest and presented the Council with a petition against the proposal. However, they refused to let the Plaid Councillors speak in support of the protest, so they walked out of the meeting. Since this protest, there has been a Council Cabinet meeting that has decided not to keep Rhydfelen's name. School pupils have protested and striked as they disagree with the decision. Keep it up! It is the Labour Party in Rhondda Cynon Taf that has refused to keep the school's name, and it is important that everyone is aware of this fact. Plaid Cymru and Cymru X continues to support the school's plight and we hope that we will be able to win this cause.
