On Saturday the 12th of October, members of Social Forum Cymru who attended the Paul Robeson Civil Rights Day took to the streets of Cardiff to protest against companies such as Starbucks and McDonalds who have outlets in Guantanamo Bay. Drawing attention to the inequalities of the prisoners was the main intention of the protestors by emphasising the polarisation of the situation in Guantanamo Bay- painting a picture of the soldiers comfortable lifestyles compared to the prisoners who are locked away in small cages with little food or fresh air.
It is quite unnaceptable for such companies to justify making profits in Guantanamo Bay, while thousands of prisoners suffer even though they have not taken part in any legal process that legitimizes their being captive at Guantanamo Bay.
The fact that these companies have outlets in Guantanamo Bay came to light recently in an article in the US Magazine Harpers. To see the article go to www.harpers.org
