South West Wales members of Plaid Cymru’s youth section “Cymru X” have raised over £460 in sponsorship for Shelter Cymru.
As part of their ‘Affordable Housing’ Campaign Cymru X members in South West Wales walked the 25 miles from Kidwelly (Carmarthenshire) to Swansea in recognition of Shelter Cymru’s 25-year anniversary.
Among those who joined the gruelling walk was 26 year-old Plaid Cymru Group Leader on Swansea Council Darren Price.
He presented Shelter Cymru representative Andrew James with a cheque for just over £460 at the organisation’s Walter Road base in Swansea.
Cllr Price stated:
“Cymru X is campaigning at the moment on the issue of local affordable housing. As a youth movement we naturally look at the problem facing young people in attempting to get onto the property ladder, but our support for those unable to find a home of their own goes beyond any age-group and this is why we felt that we wanted to do something to support the good work being done by Shelter Cymru.
“Cymru X will continue to campaign on the issue of local affordable housing, a very real issue facing young people in Swansea and Carmarthenshire today. Over the next few months Cymru X is preparing to lobby both Central and Local Government on how they aim to deal with the issue.”
