Txt Referendum 4 Wales

Date: 1-November-2005

The ‘Real Referendum’ on whether Wales should have its own law making Parliament will be launched by Ron Davies outside the National Assembly’s new debating chamber on Tuesday 1 November.

This is the 1st ever political referendum of its kind in the UK.   The ‘Real Referendum’ will be different from conventional and old fashioned ‘walking to your village hall’ affair – the ‘Real Referendum’ is asking people to vote by text, and will last for a month.

It will ask 1 simple question: Do you think Wales should have its own Law-making Parliament? Voters will be asked to text ‘Wales Yes’ or ‘Wales No’ to 83010.

This political first will be promoted by banners, flyers, posters, visits and the internet in order to reach as much of the population of Wales as possible. Leaflets will also be handed out outside all four rugby internationals in Cardiff, when up to a quarter of the Country’s population will visit the Capital City during November.

There will be a photo opportunity at Tuesdays launch with Ron Davies, and various other politicians who support the campaign.  The promoters hope to quickly gather cross party support for this historic campaign.

Notes
1. CymruX – the Plaid Cymru youth movement has set-up the referendum through an independent company.
2. CymruX has endeavoured to make the referendum as neutral as possible. The question is not loaded and simply, ‘Should Wales have its own law making Parliament?’
3. Votes will be monitored to ensure that no more than one vote from each mobile number is counted.
